When you're having a hypnotherapy treatment, the hypnotherapist speaks to you in a soothing voice to help you go into a trance, an altered state of consciousness very similar to day-dreaming. In this state, your body becomes deeply relaxed while your unconscious mind becomes alert and receptive to the life-changing, solution-focused suggestions the hypnotherapist gives you. Once the trance has ended, your unconscious mind will set about implementing these suggestions. Unlike many other forms of therapy, hypnotherapy offers rapid results and many patients notice positive changes in as little as one session, though on average, three sessions are required for lasting change.
